- STEP 1: SCRUB: Exfoliating your lips is also an important way to allow lip balm to properly penetrate and hydrate your lips. Lips accumulate layers of dead skin just like your face. By exfoliating lips with a specific lip-based product, you can remove that layer and smooth your lips whilst adding a much-needed boost of hydration. Do it 2 or 3 times a week.
